Princess Joseph 25 Named Winner of the Nancy Schmulbach Maly 61 International Student Leadership Award

Princess Joseph '25, an independent studies major from St. Lucia, was presented the second Nancy Schmulbach Maly 61 International Student Leadership Award on Friday, May 10. The award celebrates third-year international and U.S. global nomad students for their leadership and community engagement both on campus and in the broader ϰٿ community.
Joseph nominators shared that Princess academic and co-curricular ventures highlight how she finds time to make campus and the town of ϰٿ a better place to be. They lauded her work in designing an independent major (environmental studies in the Francophone world), her work as an Environmental Studies SEPC member, efforts to lead projects as the sustainability coordinator for Facilities Management, and her ongoing work to amplify international voices in sustainability.
Her nominators describe her as an excellent and engaged student, a classroom leader, and a positive presence for her peers who brings rigor and dedication to her work. They describe her as being dedicated to unique opportunities outside the classroom and combining intellectual and cultural interests. She shares her own culture, and helps others share theirs through multiple venues. Joseph helped to establish Global House (a project house through Residence Life); She served as the events coordinator for the African & Caribbean Student Union; she prepared St. Lucian dishes for ISO Food Bazaar; and taught about her home through OISA Cultural Attaché program.
In addition to Joseph, six exceptional international students were nominated for the award: Diego Coelho Rodrigues 25, Utsah Kalra 25, Timur Kasimov 25, Zeineb Mezghanni 25, Livia Stein Freitas 25, and Han Xie 25.
